Expand your perceptions of abstract painting at this opening celebration that features three Inherent Structure artists who address the legacies of abstraction through their distinctive but ever-evolving approaches. The artists’ talk takes place in the Film/Video Theater at 5:30 PM. Stay afterward for complimentary snacks, a cash bar, and DJ Citizen Dorian S in the lower lobby 6–8:30 PM.
Organized by the Wexner Center, Inherent Structure showcases a multigenerational group of artists who challenge abstract painting’s historical associations with chance, gesture, and aesthetic purity. The more than 60 works presented here instead reveal the deliberate structures embedded in abstraction, illustrating how contemporary practices emerge not just from formal conventions exclusive to painting, but equally from the artists’ particular material, psychological, and sociopolitical concerns.
