Natalie’s presents Ukulele Man: Swan Song, a special evening featuring Tom “Ukulele Man” Harker. Tom started performing many years ago when Tim Easton was hosting the open mic at Bernie’s, and moved on to opening for the likes of Leon Redbone, Mojo Nixon, and Brave Combo at Stache’s and Little Brother’s, where owner Dan Dougan named him: “Hey there, Ukulele Man.”
Harker formed his first band, Ukulele Man & his Prodigal Sons, and they appeared at many venues and festivals, including ComFest, the Columbus Arts Festival, the Circleville Pumpkin Show, and toured in New York City, Boston, and Santa Cruz. Along the way, he released two CDs of original music: SumoNinjaLele and It’s a Crazy Old World. A third CD, Eldorado, is under way.
Uke Man retired for a while, but friends and fellow musicians pulled him back into action, forming the band Tryin’ Times, playing his music and the blues. Harker plans to slow down a bit, and will be less active musically, which is the reason for calling this special event “Swan Song”. All his bandmates will be there to help him on his way, and so will the Siesta Key Serendipity Children’s Chorus — made up of grandchildren, grand nephews, and grand nieces — to serenade with a song to start each set. It will be a night to remember!
